Time for Me

You guys, when did it become so hard to find time to do things for me? That’s a rhetorical question!  I know exactly when it happened. The second I had my daughter my life became all about her, spending every second I could with her and letting the things I love and care about take a back seat.

It may sound silly to some, but working out and eating healthy truly is a passion of mine. I definitely eat my fair share of chips and cookies but the way I feel when I am eating well and getting my sweat on dramatically changes. I have so much more energy, I am more joyful and enjoy my own company more (so it must be nice for my husband too). The funny thing is, it is so easy to slip into bad habits. It’s so easy to stop working out or skip meal prep for play time and cuddles. I am 100% guilty of this, pretty much since I had Emerson 17 months ago (today). I have had a few waves of being good, but overall I have been real bad and honestly taken every second I could to be with her or at night with my husband for a couple minutes of solace.

It was catching up with me. I was feeling sluggish and hated the thoughts going through my head when I looked in the mirror.

I follow all the Tone It Up girls and always say I am going to do it but never actually do. Well, this week, I made an effort to pack my food for the day and get a sweat session in. I can honestly say, after only 3-4 days I feel like a different person. My cravings for crappy food have subsided, I want to eat my salad and my energy level is significantly improved. It gives me hope and makes me excited to continue to prioritize this in my life. If I am not working out the way I would like to, the least I can do is eat well and try to squeeze in a workout at some point during the day.

For workouts, I have been using the Aaptiv app and it’s been great.  Essentially, you pick the type of workout you want (and there is a BIG variety) and there are coaches/instructor guiding you through the whole “class.” So far I have done 2 treadmill workouts, 1 outside running workout and a strength. It just gives me that extra motivation to jump on the treadmill or do an extra strength routine. I am doing a 30 day trial and will give a full recap at the end.

Health, Fitness and Pregnancy

I’ve got the urge to write… I know I’ve been M.I.A for a while and I am not going to make excuses or say I’m back, but today I want to write. I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to do and where I want to be and every time I come back wanting to be involved in health and fitness. I’m not sure how but I know I have this platform to share my own thoughts, experiences and ideas so why not use it!

Granted my life’s been a little busy and things are changing a lot so it’s harder to be as fit and healthy as I would normally like. In 7 short weeks, I will be expecting my first baby. My experience with pregnancy has been hot and cold. I always thought I would be crazy abut my diet, eating only organic, lots of veggies and tons of lean protein, but that is not the case. It’s a real challenge to eat well and resist the urge to eat sugar, junk food and fried food. Now that I am pretty far along and have a nice big belly I am way more comfortable being pregnant. In my second trimester, while I had energy, I felt funny. I had a hard time adjusting to my growing belly, the lack of control when it came to food and the inability to work out at the intensity I wanted. To be honest, I felt lazy, and I hate that feeling. Now in my third trimester, I embrace it. I have accepted my belly and pregnancy for what it is; an amazing journey, creating life and starting a family!


I have good days and bad days. Some days I have “normal” energy levels, some days I am exhausted. I don’t always eat well but I try to always incorporate some fruit and veggies. Sugar is by far my biggest downfall! The elliptical, or going for a walk, are my new go-to workouts. Although I still do try to run 3-5 miles, 2-3 times a week. Strength and HIIT are incorporated too but a lot of moves are getting really hard to do. It’s been an adjustment. But, it’s all for a really GREAT reason. Maybe that’s why I’m craving writing about health and fitness. It’s a way for me to still feel connected to the lifestyle and community I love.

In terms of this pregnancy, it’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that I have a baby growing inside me. It’s the craziest thing ever…like there is a human being inside of me! The baby is moving a ton now which is so cool. It really makes this whole experience of becoming a mom feel real. For a while it felt surreal and I struggled to really feel connected to the baby. Now, I feel like we have conversations and talk to each other through all the baby’s movements. Sometimes I feel the babies foot or hand; I can literally feel the shape of its body part.  I can not wait to see the baby, it’s hands and feet, in the outside world!


I guess, technically, today is my first Mother’s Day. How weird is that? I get really emotional thinking about it. It’s truly incredible and I feel so fortunate for this next chapter in our lives. Being a mom is something I have always aspired to be and it’s now becoming a reality. Honestly, it still doesn’t feel quite real…But it is and that’s what makes me so emotional. I’m a mom! How f-ing cool is that?

It’s past my bedtime but I had to stay awake to watch the Victoria Secret Runway Show. It just started and I am so excited! The entire show is incredible and these woman are totally freaks of nature, but I love to watch them work!

Let’s back up to this morning and do WIAW [what i ate wednesday]

What I ate Wednesday WIAW

I woke up bright and early to fit my workout in before having to work all day. My alarm went off at 5:45 and after 3 snoozes, I rolled out of bed around 6:00, immediately turned the coffee pot on and packed up a lunch for the day. I try to pack up my food for the day the night before, but lately that has not been happening.

I threw everything into a bag, grabbed my to-go mug of coffee and headed out to start my day. I work out at my office and get dressed there to beat traffic and be more efficient with my time.

I did a quick Tone It Up ab routine and 30 minutes on the elliptical. I have been slacking a bit lately so it felt good to work up a sweat.

My work day was full of meetings… literally from 9am until 1pm. I knew they would provide food, but I prepped my meals so I wouldn’t have to eat the baked goods and fast-food. Welp, it didn’t matter. I gave to my will power and the tempting treats. So instead of my KIND Bar and banana I had planned on eating, I had a Panera cinnamon roll!

They had a catered lunch from Bakers Best which I actually really like. They have really good salads and sandwiches and it seems pretty clean and relatively healthy. Instead of my salad, I had a chicken sandwich, and a variety of pasta salads.

So all the time I spent making my lunch and snacks for the day went to $hit but sometimes things don’t go as you plan…and, I won’t have to do anything for tomorrow!

For dinner, I got back on track and made a giant salad filled with tons of veggies. There were carrots, mushrooms, cucumbers, tomatoes, red peppers, nutritional yeast and topped off with some poppyseed dressing. It hit the spot and was the perfect way to end the day of feeling a little discouraged about following my plan.

The Victoria Secret Show is about to end. I am just waiting for Taylor Swift to perform her last song. 🙂 I was very entertained the entire time. The LED stage was incredible and created so much movement and dimension. Did you watch? What was your favorite part?
