Weekend Fun

This weekend went by really fast! It was the first weekend in a while that we were home and it was really nice. We spent a lot of time together as a family and I also did a lot of yoga stuff!

On Friday night, my mom picked up Emerson from daycare and Vinnie and I went on a quick date night to the new Corepower Yoga Studio in the Seaport and then grabbed dinner at Empire. It was improntu and really nice.

On Saturday, I taught yoga in the morning and then we went to the Pumpkin Palooza at Lawn on D in the afternoon. We had no idea what to expect but it was packed and super fun. They had pumpkins there for families to carve, train rides, face painting and of course fall beer and yummy treats. It was a beautiful day and a perfect way to get outside and spend the Halloween weekend.

On Sunday, we explored a new park and hung out there for wayyyy too long. Emerson was exhausted but it was so fun we couldn’t leave. There were so many toys and kids to play with. We loved it and will absolutely be going back very soon.

Sunday afternoon, instead of watching the Pats game, I was in the yoga studio for 3 hours. We had a Q4 annual update teacher training meeting. It was actually a nice refresher and great to see so many of the other teachers. It can just be hard to give up so much time on the weekend especially when I only get 2 days to hang with my family. But, now I am super prepared to teach and that is a great feeling!

Tomorrow is Halloween. We did a test run in Emerson’s costume and she seemed to like it ok! She doesn’t love the hat but she wore the fox suit no prob. The tail gets me! She is going to be the cutest little fox!

Halloween FUN

This week, I am really trying to focus in on my diet and exercise. I have been letting it slip lately and I am determined to reset and restart. The Tone It Up 21 Day Challenge Round 2 starts today so I am going to try to use that as a guide.

My goals are to:
– Do the 21 daily moves, every day
– Pack my breakfast and lunch for work  and eat only what I bring
– Cook my dinners rather than just snacking on whatever is around the house.

Weekly Workout Recap 

I hope everybody had a fabulous weekend! Mine was super restful and relaxing after a long few weeks of travel. I’ve been traveling for work and also went down to Myrtle Beach to visit my cousins and her 4 kids. It was so nice to go to the beach and have 80° weather every day. 

 
This weekend we were really lazy and relax all Saturday. On Sunday we went to my grandparents house to watch the patriots game, per usual!

  And towards the end of the game I left and drove up to watch my sister play her last fall ball lacrosse game. It was fun to hang out with my family and see my sisters.  

As for my weekly workouts, I was pretty tired after traveling so much so I felt like it wasn’t a great week but I still managed to do something almost every day.

Monday: rest – I was exhausted from my travel home 

Tuesday: 30 minute run and 1 hour C2 CPY class

Wednesday: 45 minute run

Thursday: 1 hour C2 CPY class

Friday: 45 minute run

Saturday: 1 hour C1 CPY class, Cyc Spin Class – it was a charity ride to raise money for Cupids Run 

Sunday:  5.7 mile run for Charity Miles Challenge 

 

My work out goals for this week are to run 3 times, do yoga 2-3 times as well and try to incorporate 1-2 toning routines. I’m in a pretty good routine of getting my workouts in. My biggest challenge is my diet so I’ve packed healthy meals and snacks for today and I’m really ready to refocus and recommit on eating lean clean and green.

Mother’s Day weekend

I hope you all had a fun Mother’s Day with your momma. We had a great weekend with both our families. On Friday night Vinnie and I zipped up to Vermont to his parents house and spent Saturday sitting outside on the deck, grilling delicious food and enjoying the warm weather. It was Vinnies parents 34th wedding anniversary so we celebrated both Mothers Day and cheers to 34 more glorious years of marriage!

On Sunday we drove over to NH to spend Mother’s Day with my mom! We laughed a lot, hit a buckle of balls,  drank margaritas and watched sports on TV (my dads favorite thing to follow, always). It was a super fun weekend celebrating our Moms!

Spring has Sprung

This past weekend we finally saw the first signs of Spring here in Boston.  Sunday was incredibly nice!! I went for a run and could not stop taking pictures, smiling and enjoying  the spring air. I ended up running an extra 3.5 miles because I was having so much fun!

The Charles River was full of  sail boats, the park was full of kids playing soccer and the walking path had rows of people walking, running and biking.

All this nice weather makes me excited to get outside and energized to exercise. I have been looking for that extra push to get in shape and work out. The nice weather is helping and I plan riding this wave as long as I can!

Strawberry Banana Coconut Smoothie

This smoothie was so good and so easy to make. I may of had two!

Coconut Strawberry Banana Smoothie

1 cup of strawberries

1 banana

1 scoop protein powder

1/2 cup unsweetened coconut almond milk
1 cup of water

Put in your blender and mix until it is all blended together and smooth.

Vermont Weekends

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I am surprised how much the time change has effected me. I am super sluggish today, but looking forward to the daylight when I leave work tonight!

Vinnie and I went up to Vermont this weekend. We spent time with family, skied a lot and ate great food!

I am running the New Bedford Half Marathon this coming Sunday (EEEKK). I feel so unprepared, but I am hoping for the best. I did manage to get a good 6 mile run in on the snowy dirt roads of Vermont. I have to say it was actually not that bad compared to what I have been dealing with in Boston this winter!  long run in after skiing all day

Vinnie’s mom makes amazing pizza and Saturday night she did not disappoint! She makes everything from scratch including the dough and the red sauce. It was super good! I never go hungry when we are in Vermont 🙂

On Sunday, Vinnie and I dragged ourselves out of bed, bright and early (especially with the time change) and skied all day. Vinnie’s sister, Kelly, was racing so we watched her and skied around all day.

The snow was awesome! It was nice to rip some turns – I feel like I haven’t taken advantage of all the great snow this winter. We have been trapped in Boston, unable to travel anywhere because we were too scared of losing our parking spot! #truestory

Sunday afternoon we turned on NECN and my cousin’s hockey team was on TV! They were playing in the Hockey East Championship game against Boston College and they WON! It was so cool to watch her on live TV. That’s my cousin holding the giant trophy over her head!

This week is going to be busy! My sister, Julia, flies into town tonight. Vinnie’s family is coming to visit and it’s restaurant week so we are going to try to take advantage of that. I am determined to fit in all my workouts including some runs so I feel ready for Sunday’s race… we will see how that goes!!

Another Boston Snow Storm

As I am sure most of you are aware, Boston is getting hit with another giant snow storm as we speak. It started early Sunday morning and should continue to snow through Monday night. I know a lot of people hate all this snow, and I have to admit, it is a bit annoying, but in general, I really enjoy it. There are so many fun things to do in the snow and I love snow days cuddled up on the couch, drinking hot coco and relaxing in front of the fire.

Because of all the snow, Vinnie and I had a pretty mellow weekend. I have been slacking a bit getting all my runs in for my half marathon especially with all the snow so I was concerned about not fitting in my long runs but I manage to run both days!

Saturday

On Saturday we made it out of the house around 11am to pick up groceries for the week and run some errands. I amvdetermined to have healthy food in house and make smart snack and meal decisions this week. We did a big food haul at Trader Joe’s full of veggies, lean meat and lots of fruit.

After our shop we rushed up to Melrose because there was an open house we wanted to check out. I know, kinda random, but we are always on the look out for a home and when something pops up we try to go see it because you never know! And, this house was so cute, in a great location and really affordable. We are considering placing an offer… we are on the fence because we love living in Charlestown… just sick of renting.

After the open house we walked around Main St of Melrose which is super quaint with tons of shops and restaurants. We stopped into Stearns & Hills Bistro for a late lunch and it was delicious.

By the time we got home it was late afternoon. I needed to sweat and clear my mind, so I rushed to the YMCA. I was planning on doing something light and easy but I jumped on the treadmill and ended up running for 60 min. It was a slow pace, but it felt good. I watched Kids Baking Championship on Food Network the whole time. Have you seen it?! It’s pretty funny and they are good cooks!

After my treadmill run, I did 15 minutes of toning exercises before  they kicked me out because they were closing. I shut down the gym on a Saturday night! #sweetlife #fitgirlproblems

Sunday

Sunday was a day full of meal prepping and running. I had 12 miles on the training plan and the thought of doing it on the treadmill was terrible so I bundled up and ran 12 long snowy miles outside in the snow storm. It wasn’t easy, but I had a lot more fun than if I was inside going nowhere on the treadmill! I will write more about my decision to run outside in a snow storm tomorrow so check back.

After my run,  I was exhausted so I took a few hours to recoup but I eventually got off the couch and did a ton of meal prep for the week. I honestly think I have too much food!Meal Prep2

I made BBQ pulled chicken and cole slaw to go with it, homemade hummus and sliced veggies, quinoa, protein pancakes, a loaded veggie egg bake, tofu and sliced strawberries. This doesn’t include all the other food I have in my fridge that doesn’t need slicing, dicing and cooking like carrots, apples, grapefruit, lettuce, kale, etc.

Andddd I didn’t even watch the Grammys. Vinnie wouldn’t watch the red carpet and by the time the show came on, I had completely forgotten about it! Were they good? I need to go and check out all the glamorous dressing and watch all the performances on youtube.

New Bedford Half Marathon

New Bedford Half Marathon Confirmation

Hi there! I hope everyone had a great weekend. It was nice to be home and get some stuff done, however I got very distracted by Scandal. I have never seen the show and randomly decided to put on an episode and I am completely hooked. It is so addicting and entertaining. I wasted so many hours watching the show instead of cleaning the house or working on the blog. Opps! Life goes on…

On Saturday, Vinnie and I went out to The Greatest Bar to celebrate a friends 30th birthday. I haven’t been to club type bar in a long time, it was pretty fun and nice to change things up. But, I drank way too much and was worthless all Sunday. It totally screwed up my plans for getting things done. I was so lazy, I couldn’t even cook dinner so we walked to Whole Foods to grab some food. I also picked up some Kevita to try to counteract all the toxins I put into my body. I could use about 5 more!

The one thing I did accomplish was signing up for the New Bedford Half Marathon in March. I finally bite the bullet and registered. I have been thinking about it for a really long time and decided that competing in races is a great way to work at my goals for 2015. I have run a few races but I have never followed a plan to increase my speed and get a faster time. For this race, I have 9 weeks until the race so I have been looking at a few training plans. I want to find one that has a good mix of steady state runs and speed workouts.

Quick Interval Treadmill Run + Bruins

I hope you had a nice weekend. Vinnie and I had no plans and enjoyed a very lazy and relaxing few days. Most weekends, we seem to always have friends visiting, family gatherings or trips to VT/NH planned.

On Friday I got home just in time to catch the Halloween festivities in Charlestown. We met up with our friends and walked up to the Bunker Hill Monument to join in on the celebrations. There was a Halloween parade, live music and tons of people!  It was so cute seeing all the kids dressed up and celebrating Halloween. We walked around for a bit and then headed home to hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters. It was a mellow Halloween with no dressing up but that is exactly how I like it!

The forecast for Saturday was very dark and dreary so I set my alarm to wake up in time to beat the weather. I did get up early, but I ended up sipping coffee, sitting on the couch and doing some work. By the time I got dressed to run the weather was starting to turn so I bundled up and prepared for a cold, rainy, windy run. I got about 20 minutes in and decided to head to the gym because it was so crappy out.  I got to the YMCA and scanned the class schedule, there was a Power Yoga class starting in 25 minutes! I am a new member to the Y and I am having a lot of fun exploring all the classes they offer. I have not taken this yoga class yet, so I was excited to try it out but I wanted to run a little longer so I jumped on the treadmill and did a quick interval workout to get the most out of the 20 minutes I had.

I worked up a good sweat and felt accomplished and ready to take on yoga. The yoga class was good, but I had a hard time focusing and calming my mind. The class is in a big open room with a wall of windows and I kept getting distracted by all the people walking by.

After the gym, I decided to get a jumpstart on prepping for the work week and started to make a grocery list. Vinnie and I are big into making a big meal that we can make ahead and eat leftovers for lunch. It was so cold and rainy, we were both craving warm, hearty meals. I looked around Pinterest and found some awesome healthy recipes. On the menu this week is Creamy (no cream) Corn Chowder, Paleo Butternut Squash Soup, and Baked Acorn Squash Bowls.

I started making the Cream Corn Chowder made with a cauliflower as the base when Vinnie came into the kitchen with a big smirk on his face. A friend of ours had extra tickets to the Bruins game and invited us to go. Obviously, we said yes! So, I quickly finished making the soup, bundled up for the cold walk to The Garden. The game was really fun and we had great seats. Sports games are always more fun when your team is winning!

Sunday we slept in, had a great breakfast and watched the Patriots game. Again, sports games are always way more fun when your team is winning.

Oh PS – The Cauliflower Corn Chowder is super good – and Vinnie approves! I made some small tweaks to the recipe and I will share later this week. That’s the only food prep I got done; the couch was just too comfy to get off it today.
